I am an owner of a 415C - tied down at the Springbank airport in Calgary Alberta Canada - to-day the coupe is covered with snow and the weather is too cold to start it up - I have changed the aircraft over to the "owner Maintenance" and have changed the engine to an 0-200 - what a difference - much better take off cruises about 8 mph faster than with the C85 - I have a new paint job but no photos on the computer so cannot send an attachment - will send a photo later - I have an old radioand vor for navigation - can you recommend a good GPS/COM pannel mount that I could buy - iansmith@incentre.net - I have a hand held radio for a backup

I have been a fan of the 'coupe since I graduated from high school in 1949. A stroke placed me in a position that made it necessary to divest myself of my 180 Cherokee. Time and work have brought me to a time & place where I am considering a coupe to get me back in the air. The web sight was fun and I did like the pictures. Don

Super! My father owned 2 ercoupes. The one i remember 3654H bubble windshield, forney rear windows. He put the "alon" control wheeles, double fork landing gear, and bucket seats from a wrecked alon coupe. At that time (late 60s and early 70's everybody laughed at these aircraft and did not want to own them. They are a great aircraft and i have flown 150's 172's and rode in about every general aviation aircraft and the "coupe" is still the all time favorite!!!

Hi Artie. My name is Charles Northway. I met you at the jeffersonCity memorial Airport the afternoon of May 5th. If you recall I had the Sony Mavica digital camera. I can't tell you what a pleasure it was talking to youi and learning about the ercoupe. I have to tell you...after you told me your name I said to myself...I know who this guy is...but I never put it all together until I opend you web page. It probably is a good thing I didn't put it all together or else I would have made a pest of myself. Jazz is my one passion in life...anything from Kenton to Maria Schneider and all in between. I noticed you played with the great J. J. Johnson...my favorite all time jazz trombone player. I have all the CD's with he and Kai Winding. You might be interested to know I have another AOL Screen name...it's Jazzman0226. I would love to sit down and talk jazz with you some time. I came back to the airport after I left...but could not find you. Thanks again for your time. Charles Northway Cnorth6311@aol.com 573-634-2317

Liked the article on the taildraggin'Ercoupe. Wouldn't mind having one myself. I currently fly a biplane. It's a two holer tandem with an 0-300D. The rear is enclosed but the front where the wife sits is open. She would prefer to be in out of the weather. I used to have an Ercoupe and I really enjoyed it. If someone were to have a real clean 10/10 corrosion free Ercoupe with an 0-200 with low time I could be sweet talked into trading my biplane. If someone had converted it to a tail dragger all the better, but he'd shure as hell have to show me the little beast could be handled on the ground in the air and most of all on landing! Thanks Walt

Hey Your one of th lucky people in this big wide world , I am 71 years old in April , and I have loved the coupe since I was knee high to a grass-hopper . I have only really ever seen a real ercoupe once in my life - I have missed so much I know it , I will receive a nice commission on a building project that I am just finishing here in teh Philippines in about one month . I have been going through the for sale classified , and I am really looking to buy a plane soon . I am not even a pilot - so you may think I am a little crazy thinking of learning to fly this late in life , but it's been my drem since I was small kid and seen my first ercoupe close up back in 1948 ... I fell in love wiht it back then , and now that I have 20 K to buy one , I have to start looking around the country ... If you can give me any leads or advise - I would appreciare hearing from any one who could encourage me into doing this thing ... your picture of you in the sky looking out into teh vast blue yonder just thrills me ... its something I have nevr experienced in my life except in a commercial airliner ...Hey guys keep up the spirit of flying and may you always find a landing spot that is long and smooth .... Cheers from the pearl of the Orient ( Philippines ) newkirkb@mozcom.com

Informative! Yours was the first Ercoupe page I visited, and I found what I wanted here. I didn't even start out thinking Ercoupe--I went looking for the first production year of the C-130 (which someone recently referred to as a WWII aircraft! following the recent crash in S.Calif) and just went on from there. Hello Artie, Great site! I would never have looked for an Ercoupe to purchase however, having a hangar without an aircraft in it I was asked contiuously when I was going to get a bird. As things happen, (for the good) a neighbor was leaving the area and mentioned that I needed this little airplane, he had two, a beauitful Stearman and this poor little coupe sitting in the corner of his hangar collecting dust. As I am an A&P and IA I had annualed it for my neighbor last year, and as a result I knew the airplane pretty well, however never flew it. He made me a good deal on it, however I said I would have to think it over. I am a high wing Cessna, 4 place, taildragger pilot and really wasn't too enamored with this little 2 place, low wing, nose dragger,...... at first. After a night of sleeping on the purchase of it, I thought what the heck, I really don't have an airplane and the Cessnas' that I want are way too expensive, so I bought N-99215, a 1946 415. I checked myself out in it, and have flown it for the last 6 months. Each time I fly it I gain more respect for the little bird, the ease of flight and landing have won me over, I love most of all the feeling I get with the cockpit full open, it's like flying a Harley Davidson. The longing for more seats, power and a high wing are fading and the Ercoupe may well become a perminate resident in our hangar. Best to all Coupers, keep the shiney side up. Sincerely, Marc Minnis, Palm City, Fl

I really enjoyed your website!! I first flew in an Ercoupe that a cousin owned back in 1952! I tried to get a Pilot's License about 10 years ago but got right up to solo and couldn't pass the physical due to some prescription drugs I was on at the time (TRAZADONE). However, I still love the ERCOUPE and look at the pages often. I was considering trying again since I have no physical or medication problem now but, I am 10 years older!! Cheers! I'll check your page again. Nelson Lewis

Thank you for your webpage. My first airplane was a 1946 CD, purchased in 1955. Had some great times in it. I have a 1976 Aztec, a 1962 Navion Rangemaster, and getting another 1947 Ercoupe tomorrow. I'm more excited about getting this coupe than I was with the other 2. The other 2 get me from point A to point B fast, but I've lost the thrill of "flying". The coupe will give that back. I really appreciate all the pictures and stories about Ercoupes.

I like your page, it gives good info. about the best airplane in the world. I own a 1946 415-C with a 85 engine, metal wings, no rudder petals. N2749H. Plane has been in the family since 1972 but I first flew in this plane when it was new( I was 12 at the time). It spent it's entire life in one county in western NE.(high and dry country so plane has very little corrosion). Thinking about selling it. If anyone interested e-mail me at jdphelps@hamiltion.net

Art, I really like the web site. I live in New Bloomfield, MO and have seen your aicraft. My first Hour of instruction was in and erocoup That was in 1961. I was taking pictures of your aircraft so I would have a collection of the Planes I have flown. and I had a chance to talk to you. I have recently been trying to get in touch with you. At the time we talked at Jeffson City Airport you gave me your card and suggested I call you and maybe I could ride along with you on some flights. Well, true to form I lost your card. and have not been able to call you as I am ready to accompany you on some flights. Thanks, William H. Hi Artie! Just browsed your site for the 1st time: Wow! I gotta agree that the 'Coupe is the new 'Babe-Magnet'. I just (last August) finished restoring S/N 727, NC93404, and have had a lady CFI and a lady non-pilot aloft in her. The CFI said: "Everything about flying the 'Coupe is backwards to what we are taught about flying....I gotta have one." The non-pilot thinks it's the 'coolest convertible'! Thanks for a great site, hope to see you in the air sometime. WP Marsh NC93404 Nut Tree, CA

Very enjoyable site to view. I especially liked the blurb on the 'Coupe's contribution to NASA research. My dad and I owned and flew a 415-C (N3040H) out of now-closed Chanute AFB after it was converted to a civilian residential community. What fun flying low and slow over the Illinois cornfields with the side windows dropped on a hot summer day! I have a bunch of happy memories of my dad and me flying that plane. He died last year and I'm so thankful we got to share those couple of years of 'Coupe ownership together. One day soon, I hope to have my own.

I did also own a 415-D (CF-NMU) and sure did enjoy flying it around Ontario and into Michigan. Yes you can be proud of your Plane and truthfuly the finest ever designed. Thanks for supplying a super web site. I certainly do miss my coupe. Cheers from Ron Guemes Island Washington.

Hi Artie, Nice site. I'm working on an Ercoupe project. Had a 7EC Champ that I sold to buy this Ercoupe. My pilot friends around here are all anti-Ercoupe and think I am nuts to have sold my Champ. So I was cruising around the internet to get a few positive stories about coupes. Hope I enjoy mine as much as you've been enjoying yours. I've only had a couple of rides in them(and loved it). Sure looks like fun to fly. My brother has a Cub I fly quite a bit and always enjoyed being able to "open it up" in the warm weather. Love those pictures of people flying it with the windows down. Enjoyed looking at your site. My Father purchased 2 ERCOUPES between 1947 and 1953. My first ride in a small plane was in his first COUPE. N127G. BOught a metalized version later and he loved it.Regrettably he passed away in 1954 from natural causes. We sold his newer N127G to 2 guys from Monroe Michigan. later heard they crashed it and were lost. I went on to a career in flying that has taken me worldwide. I'm 60 and retired but might buy an airplane.Would love a Pa-30 Turbo Twin Comanche but often think of an Ercoupe.Ihad the occasion to know Fred Weick in Vero Beach Fl as he designed the Cherokee line for Piper. Spoke to him often about both 127G'S. GREAT AIRPLANES AND GREAT MEMORIES.Thanks for bringing it back to me. Bill Gardner

I know a little history behing Aircoupe 3654H. My father owned that airplane from 1967 until 1971. My father bought it from somewhere in Indiana. It was a 1959 Forney with bubble windshield and enlarged rear windows. It had a 600/6 nose wheel as it was flown by the previous owner from a grass strip. I think my father paid $3,000 for it. I dont remember the total airframe time but the engine had 212 hours since major overhaul. About a year after he bought it, the wings were recovered with ceconite and painted blue and white. The gear main gear had the springs vice the donuts. Sometime after the wing recovering and the paint job, my father located a wrecked Alon Aircoupe and took the bucket seats, control wheels and the double fork nose gear and installed it on 3654H. Also new side and top sliding windows and a new interior was installed. As I remember it had a Narco MK2 12 channel radio and venturi driven horizon and gyro. The only AD that I can recall is on the bellcrank for the rudders on the horzontal stabalizer which had to have a hole drilled and a removable rubber plug installed to allow lubrication. It was sold in Carthage Missouri to whom I dont know. 3654H was hangered it's whole time my father owned it. I hope whoever owns this airplane will appreciate a little of it's history. Sure would like to see it again as I spent a lot of time flying with my father in it. My address is BOSN1 GUADALUPE @ smtpgw. MSC. navy. mil

Loved it all. great guy who designed such an airplane. After 40 years I just got my 2nd 415C85. Going to refurbish it now so I can fly while I am living here in the Philippines. Want my three kids ( 1 girl 2 boys )to experience flying one of the best airplanes ever built. Im sure Fred is watching them everyday with great pride from up there. I've flown everything from J-3 to DC 10 and I can tell you, no airplane in this world would ever match the safety, comfort and pleasure of the "ERCOUPE" Like the picture of you Panel, but couldn't get a copy to work from. Would appreciate if you could send one. Thanks for the enjoyment and God Bless. June 21, 2003 Paul Baron Yamaharley700@hotmail.com

Hi! I'm an old pilot having flown Bonanzas and Skyhawks for thirty years. I'm now interested in lighter aircraft. Been looking at Ercoupes and thinking strongly of buying one. I would hope the FAA raises the weight limits for Light/Sport Aircraft so an Ercoupe could be flown LSA. I live in Minnesota and have noted several 'Cpoupes in the area but have not made contact with any owners as yet. I hope to join the club and make some contacts. Les Drake Deerwood, MN.

I have been following the proposal for the Light Sport Aircraft and was wondering whether the Ercoupe fit the description. From what I have seen, it does not because it is too heavy (max gross for the LSA category is 1,232 pounds). Otherwise, it would be ideal. Dan Lane byolahcus@sbcglobal.net

Hi - just trolling around for Ercoupe stuff - nice site. I've always been intrigued by the design since I first saw a whole flock of them equipping a local (Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada) flying school in the early '60s. I have also found it to be one of the nicer planes to fly and learn on in the X-Plane flight sim. There's a baker's dozen or so of Coupes hereabouts. Small local field (where my bro' keeps his PA-28-140), had a hangar mural of Ercoupes, with the message "coolest plane in the world." Even though I'm partial to high-wings (used to work for Cessna), Coupe would for sure be on my short list of planes I'd like to own. Cheers, Mark Perry.
